The Fretless Space Explorer is incredibly useful for managing
and maintaining your hard drives. Unlike the Windows Explorer, which only shows
file sizes, it displays the folder size as well. This is incredibly useful when
you're trying to clean up your hard drive, recover disk space, plan your
backups, improve hard drive defragmentation, or just to understand how your
disk space is being allocated.

Save time!
Other utilities calculate folder sizes one at a time, making you wait until it
gets to the folders you're interested in. Space Explorer
quickly analyzes all folders simultaneously, so you see as much
information as possible, as fast as possible. No more waiting to find what
you're looking for while it scans your entire drive or large folders you don't
care about.

 Running
the Application
The program looks very much like the Windows Explorer, which is the program that
starts when you run My Documents or My Computer. When you select a folder
on the left side of the window, the contents of that folder will display on the
right side. All the folders will immediately start calculating their sizes
and display them as the calculations complete. Folders containing fewer
files and folders will typically display their sizes faster, while larger
folders will require more time to calculate. Tip: Click
a column header (such as Logical Bytes
) to sort by that value; click it again to reverse the sort order.
Total disk space and free space are shown at the bottom of the window. To
the right, you can see the total sizes, both logical and physical
(compressed), of all the currently selected files and folders.
The Tools menu also provides various features and links to Windows utilities
that will help you maintain the performance and free space of your hard drives,
such as Disk Cleanup and Defragment.
Installation Instructions

Download the installer.

When prompted, select Open to run the installation. This will begin the
installation. (Alternately, you can select Save to save the installation
file to your computer, and then execute it by double-clicking the file.)

Because this program does not currently have an "Authenticode signature", you
may be prompted that the Authenticode signature was not found. Select Yes
to continue, then follow the installation instructions.
After the installation is complete, you can launch the application from the
Fretless Consulting folder (in the All Programs folder of the Start Menu), from
an icon on your Desktop or fromthe top of your Start Menu (depending upon which
options you selected during the install).
Note: This application requires that the .NET Framework (v1.1)
be installed on your computer. If it is not installed (of which the
install will notify you), you can download the .NET Framework (v1.1)
from Microsoft's website. This is a rather large download--approximately
23 MB, which takes a few minutes over broadband connections, and about an hour
and a half over a 56K modem. This only needs to be installed once,
after which you can install and run .NET applications from any software
provider.
Registration
Once you've purchased a valid license, you can register the Space Explorer to
fully enable all features. The easiest way to register is from the Space
Explorer application.
Go to the Help menu and select "Update Registration Info...". You will
prompted to enter your name, email address, and a Transaction ID. You
should have received your Transaction ID when you purchased the license, and it
will also be contained in your email receipt (you may want to keep a copy of
this in case you ever need to re-register). The name and email address
must match exactly the name and email address you specified when you
purchased the Space Explorer. Click the Register button, and the
application will contact our website to generate and retrieve a valid
registration Key. Once the Key has been generated (it will look like a
long, ugly sequence of letters and numbers), click OK.
An alternate method of registering is to visit the
Space Explorer Registration Page and enter the same information
described above, then click Search. When the Registration Key is
generated, copy the Key using the "Copy key to Clipboard" button, then paste it
into the Update Registration Info window (described above).
